Jiun Onko (1718-1804) is known even in present times for his calligraphy.  This is “Daruma facing the wall”, the characters “Don’t know” referring to the famous conversation between Bodhidharma and Emperior Wu.  (The Written Image: Japanese Calligraphy and Painting from the Sylvan Barnet and William Burto Collection)
